NCCN Guidelines for Patients. These are prepared by a coalition of about 20 of the most prestigious cancer centers in the U.S. – a group known as the National Comprehensive Cancer Network or “NCCN.” They show the patient the “decision trees” a doctor analyzes to arrive at appropriate therapy based upon the presence or absence of specific factors. The material can be slow-going but is well worth the effort. (available at www.nccn.org)

Patient Guides from CURE Magazine. In addition to publishing a free monthly journal about cancer journeys – easily understood by the layman – the CURE organization also puts out a series of guides (each about 10 pages) which we highly recommend. They cover many important topics, such as cancers which become "metastatic". (available at www.curetoday.com)
